NEW YORK PANDEMIC

On March 13, 2020, the City ground to a halt. The reason was entirely invisible.

In the frightening first few months of the pandemic, the primary manifestations of the widespread human misery were indoors. Outside, the City was quiet and still. The first group of photos in this series show the utter serenity of Times Square on a bright clear morning.

Gradually New Yorkers returned to the streets and subways. By 2021 a modicum of normality had returned. But the strains of the pandemic are clearly reflected in the faces of the returning New Yorkers – albeit only actually reflected in the portion of their faces above their noses.
